Chapter 4: Pregnant?!

Two months later
“Don’t go,” Harper said, holding tightly onto her brother. He hugged her back then set her at arm’s length, “Harp, I have to.” “You can quit!” “Why do we have this conversation every time I leave?” Harper didn’t try to stem the tears running down her cheeks. “I’ll be back sis, promise,” he said. “Why do you have to go back?!” “I love serving my country.” “...You better come back in one piece, and not in a body bag.” He kissed her forehead, “I will.” She hugged him once more before letting him hug their dad goodbye. After a few minutes, he headed back to the car waiting for him. He waved, and for a moment, Harper thought she saw a flash of those clear blue eyes from two months ago but she shook her head and went back inside.

Cole didn’t know what to do. He’d come to pick Harvey up so they could head to work; he wasn’t expecting to see the girl he’d been dreaming and jerking off to. Neither was he expecting her to be Harvey’s sister. Shit, if Harvey ever found out he fucked his little sister, he’d chop his balls off. Harvey sighed. Cole looked over, “What’s wrong?” “Harper, she always cries when I leave.” Cole nodded, “Understandable. She looks young.” “She’s 17.” Double shit: he’d fucked a minor. “It’s hard to see a loved one go.” “Do your brothers cry?” “They’d never be caught dead crying.” Harvey chuckled, “You’re probably right. I just feel so bad.” “I know.” Cole felt bad too, just not for the same reason. He wanted to sleep with his best friend’s sister again and had no shame in admitting that to himself.
………..

Harper sat numbly on her bed. Every time Harvey left, she got a little depressed. Her father didn’t understand it because he’d been in the military too. He had a high sense of duty. Harper called Paige. “Hey girl, what’s going on?” “Harvey left.” Paige knew what they meant. “Oh Harper, he’ll be back. Do you want to come over for a girls’ night?” “Yeah. I’ll be there in about 20 minutes.” “I’ll see you then.” Harper packed a bag, told her dad where she was going, then headed over the Paige’s. As soon as she walked in and smelled Mrs.Porter’s cooking, a wave of nausea overwhelmed her. She dropped her bag and ran to the bathroom where she threw up the contents of her lunch that she’d shared with Harvey. “Are you alright?” Paige asked. “I just felt a little nauseous, that’s all.” “You look a little pale. Come sit down.” Paige led her to the living room where Harper sat down. “How do you feel now?” Paige asked. “A little better, thanks.” Mrs.Porter came in, took one look at Harper, and frowned, “Honey, you look sick. Are you okay?” “She just threw up,” Paige supplied. Mrs.Porter frowned, “Did you eat something spoiled?” “No offense but as soon as I smelled the food I had to throw up,” Harper said. Mrs.Porter’s eyes widened, “Are you pregnant?” “What?!” Paige and Harper said in unison. “Are you pregnant? When was your last period?” “My last period was…. two months ago,” Harper said, her face paling. “Wait here. I have some tests.” Mrs.Porter went upstairs. She returned with a box and handed one to Harper. Tentatively, she took it to the bathroom. She came out, they waited three minutes, then she flipped the test over. The words pregnant glared back at her.

Paige gasped, “Omigod Harp-you’re pregnant!” Mrs.Porter pulled Harper into a hug, “We’ll be here to support you in whatever you decide to do.” Harper’s emotions were all over the place. First, her brother left and now she’s pregnant. “You have to tell the dad. Who’s the dad?” Paige asked. Harper thought back to the last time she’d had sex: at the Martinson rave with the mystery guy. She groaned, “I don’t have a way to contact him because I don’t know his name.” Mrs.Porter shook her head, “Kids these days.” Harper slumped onto the couch, “What do I do?” “That’s up to you honey. Are you able to raise a child or not? Do you want to carry the baby to term then put he or she up for adoption?” Mrs.Porter asked. Harper buried her face in her hands and cried.
