The Golden Barbarian
From the halls of a palatial prison to the hot sands of an endless desert . . .
Here is a timeless story of love and adventure set among hills of gold, warring tribes, and fabled kingdoms—the story of a fearless princess and a barbarian sheikh. . . .
She was a ravishing pawn in a game of politics and passion. . . .
Flaunting the oppressive destiny decreed for her by the kingdom of Tamrovia, Princess Theresa Christina Rubinoff struck a sensual bargain with a handsome barbarian chieftain. She vowed to play his seductive game, surrendering herself to his will, all the while determined to fight for her independence in a land that considered women only as playthings.
He was a desert warrior king, driven by passion and pride. . . .
Mysterious as the desert night, rich as Midas, Galen Ben Raschid swept Tess away to his palace in exotic Sedikhan, offering her freedom in exchange for the marriage that would join their kingdoms. A man surrounded by enemies, he would make her a slave to his passion in order to bind her to his side, little knowing that when he took the captivating princess as his bride, he would lose his heart. . . .

The
War between these two main characters was great. Took them long enough to realize they were in love. Another good Iris Johansen. The

This is one of my favorite authors. I have enjoyed reading, her plots are interesting and complex. This was one of her first books, from an old publisher. The book is short in comparison to other books, about 200 pages, so the plot is not as complex as someof her later books. I also liked the fact that it is part of a series, she was one of the first to have characters that show up in more than one book. If I like a character, I am sorry when the book is finished. I loved the hero and the story line, but not so much the heroine and the ending was a let down. I mean - it was leading up to fireworks and I felt like it was a dud. I loved how the hero felt about the heroine. The hero was handsome, strong, brave, and intense (loved the steamy scenes), but I felt like the heroine was out there and not involved in wanting to love the hero. She was so intense about women's lib that the focus was more on her feelings about men then the love story. If I'm reading a love story, I want the focus to be about the two characters and the angst of loving eachother. The heroine didn't seem to have enough feelings about anything other than how cruel men can be. I have several IJ books that are keepers, but this one fell short. Again - I loved the hero - how he dealt with his problems, the heroine, and his responsibilities as Sheik, but the heroine turned me off.
