Chapter NINE

Roz was now in the first week of her ninth month and Max was worried sick. Roz on the other hand was as calm as can be.
“The doctor said one more week and then they will induce so quit worrying.”
“What do they know, do they have any children?”
Roz laughed loudly. Then all of a sudden she screamed in pain.

“Roz honey, you have to push, the baby wants to come out.”
“It hurts Max!”
“Doc should she be in so much pain?”
“Well it isn’t called labour for nothing.” He shrugged as a show of frustration.
“Roz honey I need you to give me a good push, it will be over soon.”
“Both of you go to hell.” Roz screamed.
“Doc you have to do a caesarean.”
“It’s too late for that now, I can see the crown, she needs to push harder and longer.”
“Come on baby, I know you’re tired but we can do this.”

Roz focused on her breathing and did the best she could, she knew something was wrong but she didn’t have the strength to tell them, she just wanted the baby to be safe.

“Roz, we did it, she’s here!” Max looked over at his baby daughter and was grinning from ear to ear until he realise Roz had not moved.
“Doc, she isn’t moving.”

One week later.

“Dad is mom gonna wake up soon?”
“I hope so buddy, give her a kiss and tell her that you love her.”
Brad did as his father said.
“Jeff go with Diondre and take the children, I will be home soon.”
“Roz, I need you here, our baby girl needs you, she cries every night and nothing will calm her down unless she sleeps with you. Please, please wake up.”

Every night for the last week Max has slept in the hospital. He is tired and the children are depressed. Their baby girl Brittany refuses to go to sleep unless they put her in the bed alongside her mother. Roz is producing milk so they allow her to feed naturally instead of pumping off the milk. Max was adamant they not take that away from either of them.
One night as he was doing his duty of collecting Brittany from the nursery and taking her to her mother, Roz’s doctor came up to him.
“Max, I need to speak with you as soon as you finish with Brittany.”
“Okay Doc.”
Max, shifted Roz around, opened her gown and tucked the baby in the crook of her arm and as usual she found the nipple quite easily. She would take about ten minutes on each breast and then she would sleep until she needed changing. They were allowing him to take her home the following day.
When she was finished he took her back to the nursery and went to speak with the doctor.
“Max, Roz isn’t responding to anything we give her. Her brain scans are normal, she isn’t comatose but she won’t wake up either. It seems as if her body is just too tired to register anything.”
“What do we do doc, it’s not like she is on life support that we can turn it off.”
“Take her home. You will need to hire a nurse.”
“Okay at least she will be with the children.”
