Chapter 26 (Epilogue): Their Happily-ever After

Two years later
“Cole……” a voice said. He groaned in annoyance and turned around to face Kate. How did she not get the point? He’d married Harper a year ago and this was their anniversary party. Who invited her anyway? “Kate…” he said, drawing out her name so his displeasure was coming through loud and clear. “Congratulations.” His eyebrows flew up; what did she just say? “Don’t look like you’re surprised. I wouldn’t hit on a married man. Don’t think so highly of yourself.” He smirked. She looked over to where Harper was feeding their 17-month-old daughter. She had his blue eyes so they named her Cyan Hayley. He followed her gaze and couldn’t help but smile. “Marriage looks good on you,” she said. He smiled, “Yeah, it does.” “Well, I’m gonna go grab a burger.” They were having a BBQ. He nodded, “Sure. And thanks.” She smiled, “Of course.” He turned back to the grill to find Emerald staring up at him with her big blue and green eyes. He picked her up, “Hey there. Have you had a burger?” “I don’t want one,” she stated simply. “Why not? You don’t like burgers?” She shook her head, “I want hash browns.” He chuckled, “How about a burger with hashbrowns in it?” Her eyes lit up and she nodded. He handed the tongs to Chase, “Take over would yah. I need to get her food.” He nodded, “Sure.” Cole went and got a hashbrown out of the oven. He already knew she’d want one so he’d made on. He assembled her burger then took her outside. She plopped down beside Harper. Cyan looked over at her sister’s burger jealously. “Is that a hashbrown burger?” Harper said. “Yup,” Cole said. Harper shook her head, “Of course it is.” “Because our little pumpkin likes hashbrowns,” Kira said, coming over with her and Harvey’s son, Hayden. He was one. Cole tugged Harper’s hand and pulled her up. She couldn’t sit there looking all beautiful and he not want to kiss her. “You guys go enjoy-I’ll watch them,” Kira offered. “You sure?” Harper asked. “Of course. Don’t you want to spend time with auntie Kira?” she asked Emerald and Cyan. “Yes!” Emerald said. Cyan eyed her over-energetic aunt with caution. Cole linked his hand in Harper’s and drew her inside since everyone was outside. “Damn it, woman-you can’t look so sexy!” he hissed, biting her ear. She smiled, “Well, I was trying to impress my husband but I wasn’t sure if it was working.” “Oh, it’s working all right.”
Harper ran her fingers through his hair as their lips connected and embarked on a savage kiss. She loved kissing him. She loved touching him. Every day, she was thankful that he’d somehow made it back to her. She didn’t know what she’d have done otherwise. She’d gotten pregnant with Cyan the night he’d left from their beach tryst, and having him back and discovering that together was all she could ask for. She loved this man with everything in her. “Do you remember the night we met?” she asked. He leaned his forehead against hers, “How could I forget? You were drunk and hella sexy.” “I was pissed, actually.” He drew back, “Pissed? At who? Why?” “Caden. I found him and Ivy making out in the kitchen.”
Cole looked out the back patio doors to his brother. Caden seemed to be pretty much over her now. It’d been years. He was a very doting uncle as well. He’d been the first one there when Harper gave birth. He’d also been one of Cole’s groomsmen at his and Harper’s wedding. Harvey got best man. “I’ll have to thank him some time,” he murmured. Harper laughed. He loved her laugh. It was rich and sexy and beautiful; it could light up a room. He kissed her on the mouth, a nice chaste kiss. “I love you,” he said quietly. “I love you too,” she said, looking him directly in the eye. They stared at each other for a moment, love shining from their eyes. He groaned, “Can we end the party now?” She chuckled, “No! You’re insatiable. We did it this morning!” “I wonder if they’ll notice if we’re gone for 10 minutes.” She shook her head. “No? I’m sure they won’t.”
Now that he got her thinking about sex, she wanted it. Breathlessly, she nodded, “Yeah, I’m sure they won’t.” No sooner had the words left her mouth than he scooped her up and they disappeared upstairs.
That evening
“Read this one, daddy!” Emerald said. Cole was putting Emerald to bed while Harper put Cyan to bed. “I’ve read you three stories already princess. Time for bed.” “But daddy!” He sighed; she knew when she begged he’d cave. Well, not tonight. He had plans with Harper. “Tomorrow I’ll read that one, okay?” “Promise?” “Promise.” Satisfied, she snuggled under the covers. He kissed her forehead then headed for the door. “Goodnight daddy,” she said. “Goodnight Emerald.” He turned her light off and headed down the hall. He found Harper in Cyan’s room. She was looking into her crib. He walked over and wrapped his arms around her from behind, “Is she asleep?” She nodded, “Yes.” They watched her sleep for a moment then quietly left the room.
Cole led her to their room and locked the door. He’d learned to do that because he couldn’t have Emerald, or Cyan for that matter, running in in the morning while he was naked. Harper went over to her dresser. “What are you doing?” he asked. “Getting pajamas?” “No need.” He stripped his clothes off and walked over to her. She grinned, “I see.” He peeled her clothes off and they fell into bed.
After a round of pleasure that lasted long into the night, she snuggled into him. They were quiet while their breathing evened out. “Best sex yet,” he said. “You say that every time,” she said. “It’s true. Sex with my wife gets better every time.” She hummed, “Say that again.” “What? Sex with you gets better-” “No, what did you call me?” He kissed her forehead, “My wife.” “I like the sound of that.” “I like being your husband.” She snuggled closer to him, “I like you being my husband.” “I should hope so because this is lasting forever.” “Good.” He yawned, “Goodnight love.” “Goodnight. I love you.” “Love you more.” “I doubt that.” He chuckled and then they fell asleep.
