With This Ring
Leo Drake, the “Mad Monk of Monkcrest,” is notoriously eccentric and unquestionably reclusive. But he is also a noted antiquities expert, which is why Beatrice Poole has demanded his reluctant assistance.
The freethinking authoress of “horrid novels,” Beatrice is searching for the Forbidden Rings of Aphrodite, a mythic treasure she suspects played a role in her uncle's death. Beatrice finds Leo every bit as fascinating as one of the heroes in her novels—and she's convinced he's the only one who can help her. But after only five minutes in her company, Leo is sure he's never met a woman more infuriating . . . and more likely to rescue him from boredom.
Yet the alliance may well prove to be the biggest mistake of their lives. For a villain lurks in London, waiting for the pair to unearth the Forbidden Rings—knowing that when they do, that day will be their last. . . .

I couldn't believe it....a heroine who wasn't a virgin!!! I have to say, it's a sad thing when the sex in a story is the part I find myself skimming over....but that's the sad state of affairs Quick's formulamatic plots had brought me to. While I enjoy her character and plot development, she was so predictable in book after book.....the virgin who was always shocked at the size....the chagrin of the man who had not expected a virgin and would have been so much more considerate....well, it jus...

While I enjoy her character and plot development, she was so predictable in book after book.....the virgin who was always shocked at the size....the chagrin of the man who had not expected a virgin and would have been so much more considerate....well, it just really got so tedious. And then, along come Beatrice and Leo.....mature, believable, fun and interesting lovers who made me believe the author actually had a libido herself again!!!! Yahoo!!!!! I gave the book 5 stars for variety in the series alone!! I really enjoyed the rest of the story, too. The dialogue was fun and I enjoyed all the characters in the story....but mainly I really enjoyed the development of the relationship between the two main characters. Also, I didn't know the identity of the villain too early in the story....another pleasant surprise.

When Beatrice Poole seeks out Leo Drake, the Earl of Monkcrest, it is for his help in discovering the whereabouts of a missing heirloom.
Joining forces, the two brave the entertainments of the Ton, as well as the foggy byways of the less salubrious areas of London, in order to discover the fate of the missing relics.A tribute to the “horrid” novels (the gothic tales) of yesteryear, this is an enjoyable historical romance/mystery. With plenty of action, lots of adventure, and the usual clever but mysterious hero and intelligent heroine that Quick loves to write.
A fun read for fans of historical and gothic romances.

Love the classic Amanda quick tropes of misunderstood, genuinely good and honorable protagonists falling head over heels for each other. A dark mystery with a classic christie-esque twist and tell-all at the end. A true joy to read and I look forward to the next in the series!

I loved hear early books. They were delightful, light, entertaining, but still, her heroines were real Regency ladies, with the restrictions and convictions of that time, and they somehow developped during the book, learning something about themselves, growing beyond some old fears, or so.

The last few books are getting ever flatter. The story is still delightful, but the heroines are much too free for Regency, the period is just used as a costume backdrop and not as a real part of people's lives and values and, and I miss this most, they do not grow. They are already happy with themselves and life as it is, and the man is just icing on the cake. This is not romance for me, romance is a void being filled, a growing up of the whole person.
So, both in her contemporaries as Jayne Ann Krentz, as in her historicals, I still find a fun read, but it gets flatter and flatter in every book and I will probably not buy her next one as a hardcover, it is just not worth that m! oney.
