Pause
An unpauseable new romance from New York Times bestselling, Audie Award winning author Kylie Scott! When Anna wakes up from a coma after a car crash, she discovers life has gone on without her. Her husband has been unfaithful—with her best friend—and she’s been long since replaced at work. While her old life is a distant memory, her new life feels like an empty shell. Then she meets the stranger who saved her life during the crash, and he changes everything. Leif Larsen—tattooist, joker, and player—has his own scars thanks to the crash that put Anna in a coma. Helping her move on from her failed marriage, and create a new life, sounds like a perfect distraction. So when he needs a new roommate, he invites Anna to begin her new life with him. Although their lives may have been put on pause, together they just might find a way to heal.

Waking up from a coma and finding out one's husband has cheated, yeah not such a great way to reawaken. Now Anna has to move on with her life. When she meets Leif, someone who was also involved in the same accident that put her in a coma, it will lead to the best relationship of her life. One that starts with friendship and morphs into much more.

Pause is a sweet, short friends to lovers novella. I love how close they become in such a short amount of time, and how easily they fall into a friendship. The chemistry is suitably hot, bolstered by their already strong emotional connection, leading to happiness at the end. Both Leif and Anna are likable, sweet characters, and I especially like how much stronger Anna had become by the end of Pause.

I’m super sad to say this wasn’t for me. I’m a bit disappointed because I loved Repeat but Leif just wasn’t the hero for me. I had to give up at about 70% because I hated where their relationship (if you can call it that) was going.
I loved their start. I loved their connection. I loved that something devastating brought them together. These two had been through so much and Leif was there for her for months while she was in the hospital. They were forming a strong bond and friendship.

Then Anna decides she wants more and kisses him. He rejects her of course she is embarrassed. I am sure he was doing what was right for her given her state of mind. But, her unrequited feelings were too much to read about. What I hate is this is not a story from his perspective so we have no idea what he’s thinking. I feel had I received more explanation of where he was I would have finished.
They are friends and eventually roommates which makes her initial kissing attempt more awkward especially when his former friends with benefits comes around for a reunion. I was disappointed he would even go to lunch with her but again we don’t know this thoughts about why he would do that. I did think it was interesting he would introduce Anna as just his “roommate”. That sure would make our friendship mean less than nothing if I’m Anna.
He finally is ready to pursue Anna for more and after they go to bed together for the first time she wants to know their status (understandably so). He is basically a man and doesn’t want to define anything.
“Can’t we just enjoy being together? Hanging out?” “We can do that. We are doing that.” “Phew. All right then.”
So….roommates with benefits it is.
I just felt this completely diminished whatever connection and bond I thought they had. Did I think it was wise they go from 0-60 overnight? No, but I thought she meant more to him than this. I felt he should have kept them as strictly friends until he could give her what she deserves which way more than “roomies with benefits “.
