Hidden Talents
SUMMARY: Serenity Makepeace knows a lot about whole-grain bread, but she doesn't know beans about business. She's expanding her natural foods emporium to sell local handicrafts by mail -- which she hopes will benefit her offbeat artist community in Witt's End, Washington. But she needs a crack financial adviser to make her dream a reality -- so she charms her way into the office of Caleb Ventress, a handsome wolf in conservative clothing. An expert in the art of the deal, Caleb isn't sure what to make of the unconventional Serenity -- but there's no doubt he's attracted. A pass from a paragon of conformity -- even one as handsome as Caleb -- is more than free-spirited Serenity bargained for. But when a lethal blackmailer threatens her plans and perhaps her life, she puts her whole trust in the man who seems her complete opposite -- and the net result might be true love.

A fun story with several mysteries going on at once. Like all Krentz novels, a great read. I've read this several times now and will definitely keep and read again in the future.

This was a great book. I loved all the characters. The story line was filled with mystery and intrigue. Great development all the way around. Read it in a day and a half. I only have one complaint... Lots of Grammer errors throughout the book. Hanging quotation marks, question marks where a period or an exclamation mark should be and wrong words in sentences like by instead of my. It took away from the story a little bit but other than that I loved it!

Well written with excellent characters, just the way I love. A little wonky with a few misplaced question marks - but even those didn’t really distract from the tale. I had the plot figured out more than once only to be wrong. Good job. I simply loved the ending, so sweet. Worth the read.

As each of what I think of as JAK's classics get e-published I add them to my kindle and take the opportunity to re-read them. It is like visiting an old friend and finding that I enjoy the comfort of rediscovering how much I love these books.
Hidden Talents is one of my long time favorites and it holds up very well, does not seem dated in anyway. I have always loved JAK's strong even tough males although inside there is a part that longs to be loved, but they are not sure how to get love....

Hidden Talents is one of my long time favorites and it holds up very well, does not seem dated in anyway. I have always loved JAK's strong even tough males although inside there is a part that longs to be loved, but they are not sure how to get love. When they meet their heroine they reach out and hold on for dear life.
Caleb is one of these marvelous men. He doesn't recognize his wanting Serenity as love as he has not had a lot of experience with love. But, he recognizes that he needs her and wants her in his life. When they meet he begins breaking all of his self set rules that kept him safe in what had become a very dreary although materially successful life. I love him.
Serenity is lots of fun. She is a strong woman raised in an unconventional community and she is now determined to preserve the town where she was raised. She is a bit fey, but also very endearing. I loved her Miss Town and Country catalog wardrobe for wearing in 'the outside world' so she would appear normal. When she receives the gift from Caleb at the end, this scene even on repeat rereading brought tears to my eyes.
This ability to create characters I care about; that make me laugh and tear up and ultimately let me close the book with a satisfied smile on my face is the genius of Jayne Ann Krentz.

Welcome to Witt’s Ends, a charming mountain community where artists and those who need to be away from the hustle and bustle of the cities come to stay. The community needs a solid economic base, so Serenity Makepeace is expanding her small grocery store into a mail order enterprise to sell her neighbors’ handcrafted goods. Calab Ventress is the high=riced start-up advisor that Serenity chose to help.
This is not the type of project Calab would normally accept, but he wanted Serenity from the moment he saw her. (That is not exactly true since it was her introduction letter that actually caught his interest.) After following her to Witt’s End, he began meeting all the colorful and unique people of the area.
Since the death of a local photographer, a lot of people seem to have an interest in his cabin. Then there is the mysterious person who tries to blackmail Serenity, then Calab’s family. More than one piece of danger is entering the sleepy little town.
**** FOUR STARS! Witt’s End is an eccentric, frontier society. Each character has their own unique personally – often odd. (Such as Blade, the survivalist who believes the government will invade any day now.) Jayne Ann Krentz has written a story filled with likeable characters that I found myself wishing the town actually existed. (I would visit!) So much is happening in this story. Danger comes from more than one source. It is filled with action, suspense, and family (Calab’s) drama. Fabulous! ****
