Dark Illusion ('Dark' Carpathian Book 33)
A mage and a warrior must see beyond their facades and embrace the bond that links their souls in this powerful Carpathian novel from #1 New York Times bestselling author Christine Feehan.
At any other time, Julija Brennan would find solace in the quiet of the Sierra Mountains, but now the mage is in the race of her life. Having broken free from her controlling family, Julija’s attempt to warn the Carpathians of the coming threat has failed and put a target on her back—and those who are hunting her are close behind.…
After centuries locked away in a monastery in the Carpathian Mountains, Isai Florea can’t believe he’s finally found his lifemate—the missing half of his soul. The second he sees Julija, his world blazes with color. But despite their explosive connection, Julija rebels against what she sees as Isai’s intent to control her and rejects the bond that would prevent him from becoming a monster.
As their unfulfilled bond continues to call to them both, Julija and Isai aim to complete the task that brought them together. They are used to facing danger alone, but now the mage and the ancient warrior must learn how to rely on each other in order to stop a plot that threatens all Carpathians.…

Julija Brennan is a direct descendant of the High Mage Xavier, the enemy who held the illusion of being a friend to the Carpathians for centuries, has finally seen through the many illusions her family perpetrated to keep her submissive and unaware of her true worth and powers.
Isai Florea has been searching for his lifemate for centuries, placing himself in a Monastery that housed and protected the most dangerous of the Ancient Carpathians: building an illusion of what he believes she will be and how she will act once found.
Julija and Isai endure a bumpy road to get to their happily ever after. Between Julija’s hard taught fear of Carpathians making her unwilling to accept Isai’s arrogant assumption that she immediately accept his lifemate claim and Isai’s lack of knowledge about and typical Alpha males disdain of the modern women’s independence, it is a wonder they managed to get together.
It was Julija’s inate inner light that finally shines through all the illusions. Her compassion for Elizabeta’s plight was instrumental in releasing her from a centuries long imprisonment, her courage in breaking from a family that constantly sabotaged her confidence and actively placed her in danger and her ability to admit she was wrong drive the story.
While Isai starts out as a typical Carpathian male assuming he is always right, it is to his credit that he reacts to Julija’s courage in educating him on how a modern woman thinks and expects to be treated. His ancient wisdom and honor quickly shows him that he was as wrong as she had been in the beginning, and as a lifemate should he quickly begins helping Julija to gain confidence in herself and her abilities
Dark Illusions is a story packed full of information, from backstories of the evil Mage Xavier and the introduction of a new dangerous enemy. Shadow cats prowl, evil spell books are lost and found again. Isai and Julija work through their rough start and become one of my favorite couples in the Dark Series.
This is a book to either be read very slowly to absorb all the information or to be reread several times. Either way you will enjoy this story from start to finish!!

Dark Illusion was a wonderful read. Great storyline, and action pack! I adore these Ancient Carpathian Monks!
Isai, and Julija have a bumpy start to their bonding, and the eventual claiming of each other as lifemates. But, Isai adjustments to the modern world is pretty smooth, considering he thinks he wants a woman that clings to his every word. Silly male! What he receives is a lifemate that's just as honorable, protective, and loyal as he is.

What he receives is a lifemate that's just as honorable, protective, and loyal as he is.
Julija is such a wonderful strong character. She's honorable to the degree, that she reminds me of the Carpathian male. Honorable, loyal, and a protector of all! Julija had such a terrible upbringing, raised among people that are monsters, but was able to retain her sanity, fight for good, and not succumb to despair, and the pressure of evil.
Xavier, Xaviero, and Xavion are still impacting the lives of the Carpathian people even though two (2) of the triplets are dead. We find out what happens to Xavier's dark book, and receive more information on how long Xavier's plan in destroying the other species has been in progress. We see the Shadow Cats, and learn even more about them, and how the evil mages have used them over the years. We're introduced to a new villain. I can't wait to see more of him in future books. He's deliciously evil.
We also get an update on Elizabeta, and how she's healing mentally. It'll be interesting to see how Ferro will handle his mate, and the abuse she's been subject to.
