Admittedly, I was enthralled with this particular adventure. The author delivers the promised romance - and one mildly explicit scene. Miriam, the heroine, is stubborn and willful. As such, we're given thrilling glimpses of the world Mac Flynn has built for our amusement. There are intricately detailed descriptions of the high castle and the woods adjacent. The unfortunate side effect of that prolific description seems to be a bit of a rushed ending.

As such, we're given thrilling glimpses of the world Mac Flynn has built for our amusement. There are intricately detailed descriptions of the high castle and the woods adjacent. The unfortunate side effect of that prolific description seems to be a bit of a rushed ending.

For the most part, the pacing is very good. Events move along at an interesting speed with enough intrigue to keep the reader spellbound. This changes abruptly when Miriam is at the portal, watching Xander fight one of the red dragons. I don't want to give spoilers, but it's at this point that the novel speeds up dramatically. Events seem to happen at a lightning-fast pace with one crisis flowing into the next, allowing hardly any time for readers to even process "what just happened". While the climax of this novel doesn't feel anti-climatic, I did feel a little cheated as a few tropes seemed to have been heavily relied upon to create the desired closure.

Yes, closure: this could very well be a stand alone novel. That's a terrific reason to read it - and if you like high fantasy, you'll probably decide to continue on with Miriam and Xander in their adventure. In the tradition of authors like Mercedes Lackey with her "Wheels of Fire" series, Mac Flynn doesn't rely on cheap cliffhangers to keep you reading. Instead, the "dangling carrot" is your own curiosity, and on the bond formed with the characters as you read this tale.

For those who are easily distracted (or completely derailed) by typos and errors while reading, a few notes:

There are some places with missing punctuation, as well as some instances of compound words being separated into their component parts. Additionally, there are other typos, such as:
*- "His eyes flickered to the catch and he grinned." (Loc. 85-86) - "catch" should be "cash"
*- "Tears had ran her makeup" (Loc 149) - "ran" should be "run"
*- "Maybe somebody else will hear me.’ " (Loc 153) - Single quotation mark should be double quotation mark, since all other speech has been marked that way.
*- "so stop you’re whining" (Loc 232) - "you're" should be "your"
*- "In a thrice" (Loc 321) - I think you mean "trice". This happens again at Loc 486.
*- "They swung inward as a hole pane," (Loc 333-334) - "hole" should be "whole"
*- “The Marking is only done once. As for the meals, the dragon lords are regularly daytime creatures, but during the Marking their schedule will be rather erratic." (Loc 365-369) - Huh? Should the second "Marking" be "Bonding" or something of that nature?
*- "I didn’t dare breath." (Loc 386) - "breath" should be "breathe"
*- "M shaky legs collapsed so that I sunk" (Loc 460) - "My" :)
*- "The muscles and bones seemed to stretch and pulled themselves from his very skin and form into the dragon-like appendages." (Loc 550-551) - Run-on. Also, as is, "form" should be "formed". If the "and" preceding is changed to "to", then it's okay as is.
*- "One of the others lords" - (Loc 630) "others" should be singular.
*- "once she is of this will she will" (Loc 645) - The first "will" should be "world".
*- "whether your chosen as my mate" (Loc 651) - "your" should be "you're". Also, huh? Didn't he say earlier that she found his scent to be pleasurable because she was his mate?
*- "I shivered and turned away to face away and toward his chest." (Loc 781) - This is muddled.
*- "was a round stone alter" (Loc 792) - "alter" should be "altar". This happens again at Loc 794 and 797.
*- "nor nor yours," (Loc 831)
*- "was once more pinkish than white." (Loc 1159)

A good start to the series. Interested to read more and see where this series goes! On to the next!

Not a unique story line but very entertaining. Women being snatched and brought to another dimension to hopefully be mated to a dragon lord.
This was the beginning to a series that promises action, suspense and women learning to fight for what they want. The main female character is snarky with plenty of stubbornness mixed in .
I’m looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
