I enjoy Omegaverse stories, and I’m always on the lookout for new ones. I have read several OV books that have a mafia slant to them, and others that have Sci-fi elements. Aimes’ Ruthless King, however, is the first I’d seen that fully integrates OV with a strong Sci-fi base, where an entire galactic population is controlled by organized crime groups. So, Aimes’ OV/sci-fi/mafia world-building was far-reaching and fascinating to me.

The main characters in Ruthless King take the form of an Omega princess, Dahlia, and Nikolai, the Alpha-leader of one of the mafia families. Each belong to families that are feuding. The dispute is a blood-feud which is, apparently, typical and frequent in this galaxy. The Brotherhood—the governing mafia body made up of the kingpins of each crime family—intervenes and Dahlia’s Alpha-father is forced to give her up to Nikolai. As the story widens, we’re shown how both main characters had endured abusive childhoods. The betrayals, deceptions, and life-threatening perils these two suffered greatly affected their individual decisions and actions along the way. We also learned that Dahlia and Nikolai first met in childhood. A strong, positive connection between them was forged during that meeting.
However, Nikolai’s and Dahlia’s romantic feelings for each other as adults were more of a slow burn. It took an awfully long while for them to build trust in each other. I enjoyed the characters so much; they had depth, they were multi-layered and interesting. Aimes created unique secondary characters as well. But I was a touch irritated with both Nikolai and Dahlia. It seemed at times neither of them could see past the ends of their noses. Given their special childhood relationship, I had hoped they might have found common ground sooner to locate the crucial information they both needed. Dahlia’s often repeated fear of being used by Nikolai, and Nikolai’s frequently voiced anger with one thing or another got a little monotonous. Eventually they grew up a little, circumstances brought them closer together and their trust in each other began to grow. So, I was a lot happier and didn’t have to tell them to suck it up.
The physical part of their romance was not a slow burn! He planned to claim her sexually and mark her as soon as possible. That is typical in an Omegaverse story. In Ruthless King, their A/O mating was beyond typical; it was incendiary. And frequent. The author included a wee bit of kink in their encounters, too. I think. He did chain her wrist to her hospital bed. For her “safety,” wink-wink. But it added to the overall beautiful sizzle between them.
Ruthless King is the first Alison Aimes book I have read, but it will not be the last. I relished the author’s writing, her characters, and her imaginative world-building in this book. I am looking forward to seeing what the author has in store for other members of Nikolai’s and Dahlia’s family.

Her power doesn't come to her for reasons, unknown, but they certainly get it on constantly and they both enjoy it. Totally great read.

I am up and down about this omega-verse book it didn’t make its mark or hit the spot that I wished it would have. It has many dark aspects in the beginning that many people would probably cringe over, however this is first and foremost an omega and alpha dynamic book and second it’s suppose to be dark. With that being said it became really mushy towards the middle of the book almost ridiculously so. The story as a whole wasn’t horrible but also not something I would continue reading into the ...

With that being said it became really mushy towards the middle of the book almost ridiculously so. The story as a whole wasn’t horrible but also not something I would continue reading into the series and not something I would reread.
The book starts out as a feminists nightmare but ends on female fictional characters enlightenment and female strength; for those that decide to read this.
Triggers: presenting, rougher sex like spankings I can’t really think of anything else.
Ends with a overly HEA and does not end on a massive cliffhanger.

This author writes with excellent descriptiveness, painting a vivid picture for the reader. You get depth in the characters, phenomenal world building, and a solid storyline. The premise that omegas have a power that can be lost or developed, depending on what life they are thrown into, the twisted notion of fated mates being an alphas downfall, the courage of an alpha and an omega who have lived with a sole purpose of keeping their families safe, enemies you never saw coming, and fate which ...

This alphaverse is full of twists and turns taking place in a sci-fi setting and you won’t be disappointed if you are looking for something different in an alpha/beta/omega story.
