Hunt the Darkness
The vampire, Roke, is raw, sensual, always in control. Yet somehow he's allowed the unthinkable to happen: a nymph-like witch named Sally has used her magic to trick Roke into mating with her. The pair will remain bound for eternity unless Sally breaks the spell. The trouble is, she has no idea how. . . Mating with Roke was an accident; at least that's what Sally keeps telling herself. She's on the hunt for her demon father, whose identity holds the key to releasing the spell. The search won't be easy with Roke shadowing Sally's every move. As they mate with a ferocity that leaves them both aching for more, Sally isn't sure if her world is more dangerous without Roke—or with him. . .

I am a big fan of the Guardians of Eternity series.
This installment was exceptionally good. By that I mean: good plot, well written characters, believable evil persons, great "a-ha!" discoveries and explanations. I loved those moments. There were quite a few and they make the story so very interesting.

Roke, clan leader of Nevafa vampire clan, finds himself "spelled" or "hexed" by magic and semi-bonded to Sally. You remember her, don't you? From "Darkness Avenged" she was one of the Dark Lord's disciples. Now why was she a disciple? Did you get the hint, the feeling, that she was just not into it? And if she wasn't evil, why was she there? As you know *Spoilers* she played an important part in destroying the Dark Lord. So who is she really? Is the mating mark to Roke a spell, a fluke, an accident? Who wants her now? Another evil deity? Why are all the fey leaving her gifts wherever she goes? Does The Annasso want to use her? What is his motive for throwing her and Roke together?
Roke, happy or mad about the mating mark forced upon him...take one guess! Fighting his urge to bite and bed Sally......oh and Levet is along for the ride, per the usual. I love LEVET!
I love this series. I never know where Ms. Ivy is going next. The first book When Darkness Comes was good. The series has gotten better and better and better. Strong characters, superior plot development and humor get me coming back for more.Well done Ms. Ivy!

Very Brief Synopsis - **Spoilers for Darkness Avenged** In the last book, Sally had inadvertently created a mating bond between herself and Roke. At the end of Darkness Avenged, Sally had run off to find her father to break the magical mating spell, with Roke searching desperately find his "mate". Even though the mating bond is a product of magic, it feels real to Roke, and he isn't about to let Sally get too far away from his protection. As the search for Sally's father escalates, enemies abound as a threat to Sally becomes apparent.
What worked - Roke worked on every level. Grumpy, aloof and alpha to the nth degree, Roke is a terrific hero. Logically, he knows the mating bond was forced on him, but that doesn't make it any less real. He is driven to protect and care for Sally. And he wants her-so much. The smexy times between these two were so hawt, even before they actually...you know. Roke had a very specific idea of what he wanted his mate to be, which is pretty much the opposite of Sally. But the more time they spend together, the resentment subsides, and Roke begins to Sally for who and what she is. I loved how protective Roke is towards Sally, and how frantic he grows when he feels she is lost to him.
Sally is awesome. I was a little concerned, given Sally's past, as to how she would work as a heroine. I shouldn't have worried. Sally is tenacious, smart, cautious and so very attracted to Roke. Although she has a major case of the "not worthy's", she keeps pushing. Ms Ivy captured Sally's general weariness at not being enough, at not ever having known love, so beautifully. In spite of that, Sally is determined to find her father and release Roke from his enforced bond. Even though, in her heart of hearts, she really wants to keep Roke, she doesn't want him unless he genuinely wants her.
I *loved* the solution to the forced mating bond! Oh, it was perfect!
I love the direction the story took. We meet more magical beings who will no doubt figure prominently in future books.
We get some Styx time, and some Viper (swoon!)interaction. And of course, Levet plays a role.
What didn't work as well - I can't think of anything.
Bottom line - I love this series! Time and money very well spent. You could certainly start here, but don't deny yourself the pleasure of the entirety of the series. So good!

From Page one chapter one this read had me on the edge of my seat, holding my breath and cussing out loud. Seriously it is that good.
Roke is the Clan Chief of the Nevada Vamps and is 100% Alpha. He’s considered a loner and doesn’t let anyone get close. His main purpose is to protect his clan period. Deep down he’s been walking around with a guilt that was like a cancer eating away at him. His Clan Chief was murdered along with his mate and he found out his Sire was the one who did it to speed his fate along. Then she walked into the sun and he assumed it was because she was ashamed. Roke all these years felt it was his fault and that she didn’t believe he could challenge the Clan Chief and win. It wasn’t until the powerful smart mouthed Witch Sally Grace put it into a different prospective that he stopped blaming himself.
Sally Grace a very very powerful Witch and was very capable of black magic. She had a rough upbringing. Shown no love and abused all her life by her mother and to make matters worse she never knew her father. When she sought refuge by the Vampires she found herself in their dungeons. They didn’t trust her. When Roke was basically assigned by Styx to babysit the witch for the time being an unexpected spark occurred between both Sally and Roke. You have to understand Vampires hated witches and vice versa so this alone presented a problem. In her anger trying to get out of the cell she accidently put a spell on Roke bonding him to her making her his mate. The words that came out of their mouths can only be imagined. The bond could be broken BUT and that’s a big but she didn’t know who or what her father was. So the hunt begins. With a three week head start on Roke, Sally sets out to find her father. Roke accompanied by Levet finally catches up with her and the trek begins in earnest.
The things Sally and Roke have to endure are unbelievable. Who would have thought a little music box would have caused so much chaos, from being hunted by a mist demon, to Roke almost dying, to poor Sally getting locked away in a cell again and beaten by a member of Roke’s clan.
There were several unexpected revelations with regards to who Sally’s father was and what he was. Even finding her father she realized she meant nothing to him and was there to free him only.
Sally gave Roke’s heart a run for his money. She was so afraid to let anyone in and she was so afraid of depending on anyone and giving her trust, even so Roke did not want the spell broken. In his heart of hearts he knew she was his true mate. But as fate would have it when Sally was basically whisked away against her will by her father and Roke went looking for her, Sally’s father did what she wanted and removed the spell. OMG I choked up but I’m not saying anything you need to read the book. Oh almost forgot, at the end one of Sally’s sister’s Fallon disappears with Roke’s BFF Cyn. So I’m assuming we will be seeing daddy dearest Sariel again. I’m really interested in seeing if the playboy Cyn finally met his mate.
