The Gorison Traveler Incident (Veslor Mates #1)
Vivian is a cultural specialist on the United Earth fleet ship Gorison Traveler. It’s the perfect job for someone who wants to learn everything about aliens. The only problem? The commander won’t let her anywhere near the visiting Ke’ters aboard the ship. The only way she gets a peek at the lizard-like race is when her brother opens a live camera feed during a meeting—a meeting that turns tragic when the Ke’ters attack the crew.
She’s horrified. Scared. The Ke’ters are murdering her people. Rushing from her quarters to get help from a control center, Vivian finds the station abandoned. It’s all on her to try to rescue the crew.
Brassi is a Veslor trader who picks up a distress signal from a nearby space vessel. The attractive female who contacts him looks terrified, and needs his help. He’ll board the Gorison Traveler with his crewmates, and fight the Ke’ters, but the longer he spends on the huge Earth vessel, the greater distraction Vivian becomes. Brassi will do whatever it takes to save her…and to discover if Vivian’s his mate.

I kept putting this book off since it wasn’t available through KU since I rarely purchase a book anymore. But I really enjoyed this authors Vorge Crew series and when I couldn’t find anything else tempting the other day on KU under SFR, I took a chance on this one, and I ADORED IT!
This book was so refreshing since it was NOT a forced captive / kidnap situation, which has become so popular in SFR.
Some light spoilerish content.

It starts out with Vivian, the h, working on a space ship. A bad alien race attacks, she sends an alert, here come the good aliens, the Veslor’s, to the rescue. The initial interaction via com and video with Brassi, the H, is rather charming. Eventually this situation is handled and Vivian ends up with Brassi and his crew on their ship.
I like how Vivian was NOT a pushover or wimp. She sucked it up and got stuff done. Really took charge and wasn’t scared of her own shadow. She was not written as stupid either, thank goodness!
Brassi and his crew was strong, charismatic, charming, fierce warriors, protectors and value females. The glimpses of the other males show differences in characters and have perked my interest for future books in this series. I will definitely get the rest of this series!
Vivian does NOT fight against Brassi and their bond. She asks questions, listens and observes. She thinks things through and while at times is unsure of what to do, she makes logical and thought through choices. It was so nice that she was not self centered and hurting his feelings constantly. Instead these two really talked and formed a solid foundation for their relationship. I was VERY pleased when she told him she would accept the bond. I liked that she was not overly shy either.
One reviewer called this book beast uality. I disagree. These are shape shifting aliens. Why they are basically humanoid like, they shift into something similar to a black panther. They are able to have s e x in human form and when they form the mate bond or try to make babies, mates usually have s e x in their shifter form. So to form the bond, the H must shift and since the h cannot, they begin s e x by both being in human form and then when he is ready to form the bond, he shifts. His P. STAYS THE SAME. It’s not a weird P or anything creepy. It’s important to ready even when shifted he’s still able to hear and think just like his human self. This brief bond scene is fast and it doesn’t overwhelm the story. Frankly, I found it rather hot. He’s NOT just an animal. He’s a sentient being that happens to shift. The other intimate scenes in the book were nice. Not overly descriptive or graphic, I prefer that, but what was in the book I think would be a good degree of descriptions for most readers.
I’m absolutely recommending this series. I adored the H and the h wasn’t bad either. Again, LOVE that the book did NOT focus on pushing between the couple, but rather acceptance and building of their relationship.

The Gorison Traveler Incident (Veslor Mates #1) -
This book was a nice surprise…. I had no idea Laurann Dohner was releasing another book so soon nor did I know she was starting yet another series. All PNR books I read are compared to LD’s work because she was the very first author I read that had me hooked. It doesn’t get better than New Species or VLG. This new series, Veslor Mates reminds me a lot of The Vorge Crew which I thoroughly enjoyed. There seems to be a lot of parallels and yet they are truly their own stories…
The first book throws us right into the action with drama and danger showing us that the heroine in this book is strong and fierce. I really have a good time reading about hot aliens and LD doesn’t disappoint with her well practiced ability at creating a world of rich depth and vivid imagery. Although the Veslor men are similar to the alpha males on The Vorge Crew, I find these guys have additional skills that hold your attention and open up a world of possibilities. Brassi was delightful and super sexy! His initial interactions with our heroine, Vivian were adorable and captivating. We can’t forget the background characters in the story… with every great LD book you are sure to get a bunch of great lines full of humor. I look forward to seeing these entertaining crewmates in future book releases.
Overall, this is a short, sweet, and super steamy read. If you’ve read every Laurann Dohner book like I have (or even if you haven’t) you might as well add this to your collection, it’s a great adventure! I devoured this book in a day and now I sit back and wait for the next installment or whatever LD wishes to release next… *cough* New Species, please! *cough*

The first half of the book was amazing. A non-military h in control and command in a dangerous attack by aliens. The aliens don't want to kidnap them. They want to eat them. Yes, really eat them. In fact some of the characters get eaten or half eaten and have to die.
So first half had me on the edge of my seat. The action was non-stop.
The second half.... I will say it was a bit rushed. The H and h get together very quickly. But I could see that happening based on some of the "things" i...

The second half.... I will say it was a bit rushed. The H and h get together very quickly. But I could see that happening based on some of the "things" in the first half. So it didn't bother me that much.
"Beastiality" - OK that was a bit of a strange twist. With everything else good in this book, I didn't mind it. Also it was an alien. I've read about stranger alien/human relationships. So that wasn't what I was expecting. However, I just kind of skimmed of that one part of a very good book. Also I didn't think it was that bad.. (Again it was an Alien)
Overall it was a good story. One of those books that I buy and KNOW I will reread.
Sex -- At the end of the book a lot.
Story -- Excellent in the first half. It kept me on the edge of my seat
Re-read -- YESRemember the end of it is strange. Very strange. If you can ignore that one small part of the story, you'll be all good.
