The Lady Chosen
Tristan Wemyss, Earl of Trentham, never expected he'd need to wed within a year or forfeit his inheritance. But he is not one to bow to the matchmaking mamas of the ton. No, he will marry a lady of his own choosing. And the lady he chooses is the enchanting neighbor living with her family next door. Miss Leonora Carling has beauty, spirit and passion; unfortunately, matrimony is the last thing on her mind . . .
To Leonora, Tristan's kisses are oh-so-tempting, but once bitten, forever shy, she has determinedly turned her back on marriage. But Tristan is a seasoned campaigner who will not accept defeat. And when a mysterious man attempts to scare Leonora and her family from their home, Tristan realizes he's been given the perfect excuse to offer his services—as protector, seducer and, ultimately, husband.

I love the mystery in the story line. If you like romance with a mystery thrown in, this is the book for you. A great start to the series of Bastion Club.

Wonderful first book in this series! Tristan and Leonore’s story was a fun read! Enjoyed the mystery they solved and how they finally came together. Very nice way to spend a couple of hours.

A good start to another series by Stephanie Laurens. The men of the Bastion Club will do anything to control their own destinies including creating a club to get away from the rules of the ton. This is Tristan and Isabelle"s story. Set amongst a person trying to invade her home and the season in London.

I somehow expected more of Stephanie Laurens. The plot was fairly typical but the story unfolded in a rather blase fashion. Even the climax of revealing who was after the heroine fell flat. Perhaps it was even the stilted writing that threw me off. I suppose it's the English professor in me that can't deal with the unusual fragments. Whatever the reason, I felt it difficult to engage with this book, and it took me more than a week to get through (whereas I can normally tear through a decent romance novel in about a day). Let's hope the others of her series engage me a bit more or I will find myself putting her reading aside.

Although the story was well written and the storyline well defined, I was disappointed with the end. The author drew the reader in and kept our interest throughout the story as well as allowing us to experience her characters many emotions. Did the government pay them for it or did it just take it. Unless it continues????
