OK..I LOVE everything by Maya Banks, I am on the quest to read everything she writes and I must say this Book was so different in such a good way! Most of my favorite romances are boy meets girl, fall in lust, break up, back together.. Im so good with that but this one...throw in a shapeshifter and WOW was it fun!!! Loved this book, cant wait to read the next about the sister.Different, Fun, Exciting!! Loved it Maya!!!

This is a good read, Duncan lives and works in the mountains of Colorado as the sheriff. During a routine follow-up on complaints of seeing wild animals from a local, he finds an injured female cheetah. Since cheetahs are not local animals he realizes that he has a problem. When he tries to get the animal to safety, the hunter finds them and Duncan is saved by the injured animal. The cheetah allows Duncan to handle her and even helps him get her to safety.

Since he cannot get in touch with the vet he takes the cheetah home and locks her in an outside room. He is amazed when he returns later to find a woman in the place of the cheetah, with the same injury in her leg. Aliyah Carter is a shifter who was captured by poachers in Africa and shipped to Colorado for illegal hunters. Duncan has to solve the mystery of Aliyah and capture the hunters before other animals are killed.

This was a great book, it's not too long, I'd guess about 188 pages. Since it's a prequel to Amber Eyes, I bought both books.

I like Maya Banks, her books are usually explicit but this was not all about the sex. If you're looking for super hot, you may be disappointed.

The characters were wonderfully written and the love story was very touching. Aliyah knows who she is and what she wants. Duncan wants to protect her from all that could happen.

The characters were interesting and the plot was ok. However, the main characters really did not do any bonding. Except in the bedroom. Also, the more information on the illegal exotic game hunters. Instead of just repeating the same stuff. If occasionally, the book went from the main to characters, to the hunters. It would add drama and suspense.
