The Hot Shot
First we were friends. Then we were roommates. Now I want more…
What can I say about Chess Copper? The woman is capable of bringing me to my knees. I know this about five minutes after getting naked for her.
No one is more surprised than me. The prickly photographer my team hired to shoot our annual charity calendar isn’t my usual type. She’s defense to my offense, a challenge at every turn. But when I’m with her, all the regrets and darkness goes away. She makes life fun.
I want to know Chess, be close to her. Which is a bad idea.
Chess is looking for a relationship. I’ve never given a woman more than one night. But when fate leaves Chess without a home, I step up and offer her mine. We’re roommates now. Friends without benefits. But it’s getting harder to keep our hands off each other. And the longer we live together the more I realize she’s becoming my everything.
Trick is… Now that I’ve made her believe I’m a bad bet, how do I convince her to give this player a true shot at forever?

GAHHH. THIS BOOK. THIS BOOK. It took me a few hours to even come off cloud nine after reading the magnificence of Kristen Callihan's The Hot Shot that I can barely form words. This book was just so absolutely fantastic. All of this author's books are incredible but this book honestly touched my heart. It was so honest, endearing, funny, sexy and so darn amazing. The banter was out of control snappy and the cast of characters, both new and familiar, were an added bonus. All of these things along with Chess and Finn made The Hot Shot a complete knock out! I don't think my heart will ever be the same!!
Two words: Finn Mannus. God. This man. I absolutely FLOVED Him. He is a contender ya'll. I don't want to publicly admit it yet but he might've knocked Ethan Dexter off my #1 book boyfriend spot of all time. Finn was just so confident and cocky but also so caring and loving. His chemistry with Chess was FIERY and SEXY AF and I did not want it to end.
Chess likewise was the girl who knocked Mr. Hot Shot Quarterback flat on his tightend when he didn't see her coming. She was everything he didn't know he wanted in a woman but then nothing really compared to her once she entered his life. She was strong, sexy, determined and such a perfect match to Finn. They were pure Book Magic. You felt every whisper and caress and smiled at every joke. You experienced everything right along with them and couldn't help but get invested. This book ya'll. *Sigh* It was everything.
I can tell you this book is a complete standalone and you won't get lost not reading any of the other books in the series. But why wouldn't you read them? They are truly outstanding and one of the main reasons why Ms. Callihan's books are like coming home for me. They give you a sense of peace and magic and that special giddy smile you get when your amongst the things you love. Bravo!! 5 stars!!

Overall Opinion: I was super excited for this one, and unfortunately I think I set my expectations a little to high. I know that I'm part of the minority club here, and I just didn't love it *shrugs*. I really enjoyed the characters, and I also really enjoyed their progression into more. But...I feel like something was missing once they do finally get together romantically. The sex was hot! Don't misunderstand me -- it definitely wasn't that. I'm just not quite sure what it was. The ending also felt rushed and it didn't fully address their issues in a way that I didn't fully feel confident that they would make it in the long run. I didn't hate it, but I just didn't love it either :/

Brief Summary of the Storyline: This is Chess and Finn story. They meet when Chess is hired to photograph a charity calendar for Finn's professional football team. They instantly bump heads, but for the first time in a long time Finn felt he was treated as a person and not as the celebrity he is and this draws him to her. The meet again, and decide to start up a friendship. The friendship turns into living together, and that turns into something more and they fall in love. There is some personal baggage that both of them have to deal with, some sexy times, a few laugh out loud moments...and they get a HFN ending.
POV: This alternated between Chess and Finn POV.
Overall Pace of Story: Good until the end. The ending felt rushed, but I never skimmed and I thought it flowed well otherwise.
Instalove: No, they take a while to develop stronger feelings.
H rating: 4 stars. Finn. I liked him. He was hot, sweet, and funny.
h rating: 4 stars. Chess. I liked her sassy, independent ways. I appreciated that she knew she couldn't emotionally handle a ONS and that she didn't fall into a pile of mush and have sex right away anyways like some of these hs seem to do.
Sadness level: Low, no tissues needed
Push/Pull: Yes
Heat level: Hot. They have some hot tension, chemistry, and scenes -- but not so much it takes away from the story.
Descriptive sex: Yes
OW/OM drama: Yes
Sex scene with OW or OM: No
Cheating: No
Separation: Yes
Closure: This (again) didn't have enough closure for me. I felt like the ending was rushed and it didn't give us any closure as to how some of their big relationship issues that they faced were worked out. I would call this a HFN ending.
How I got it: I paid the $4.99 on Amazon for it.

The latest in the series, book 4.
You get a look into both Finn and Chess heads/ feelings as the book is written from both point of views.
It's easy to read and you get sucked in quickly.Being from Europe football isn't big here, but don't let that stop you from reading these books.
Sexy & protective heroes and strong & ass-kicking women. Lots of steamy scenes and humor.I don't want to say goodbye to these sexy football guys. Is a 5th book coming?
