Maverick
Micah Sloane knows almost everything there is to know about Risa Clay, including the vicious betrayal she endured years ago and the distrust she's harbored ever since. The only way for the Elite Ops agent to uncover an assassin―and banish the ghosts of his own dark past―is to use Risa as bait. But nothing has prepared him for her disarming blend of innocence and sensuality, or for his overwhelming need to protect her… Risa has spent six years rebuilding her life. And now, to save it, she must pose as Micah's lover and draw a killer into the open. It's a risky plan―especially with a man as powerfully seductive as Micah. But, as their charade becomes reality, Risa realizes the greatest danger may lie in losing her heart forever…

I have read many of Lora Leigh's books and before I read this one I would have described Ms. Leigh as one of the "Queens of Erotica". Her love scenes definitely sizzle, but often her story & character development are lacking. That is NOT the case in "Maverick".

I must warn you, I picked up the book and was initially turned off by the first chapter. Most of the time in Ms. Leigh's books you are introduced to the protagonists immediately, and in Chapter one we are introduced to a Psycho CIA agent who is both an assassin for hire and a pedophile. I put the book down after the first chapter, didn't pick it up again for over a week, and I almost didn't bother to pick it up at all. I'm so glad I didn't walk away from this one!
As it turned out Orion, the CIA agent turned freelance assassin and sexual deviant, is the bad guy in this story and Micah (code named Maverick) and Risa are the main characters of the story along with a host of other Elite Op characters that are also quite interesting.
The story and the characters are well developed! It includes enough background information on the characters in case you haven't read any of the other Elite Ops books (which I had not), and the story itself is both interesting and emotionally moving. I laughed, I cried, and I couldn't put the book down. It has been a while since I stayed up until 4 AM to finish a book that had me this hooked!
Needless to say Ms. Leigh's romantic/sexual encounters still make you sweat (or want to go wake up you husband), but this book had the addition of a wonderful, riveting story. Don't miss it!
Well done Ms. Leigh, and thank you for an excellent read!

Excellent falls a little short for me when I think about this love story.
Lora Leigh's Elite Ops series are very well written and so good
They hold your attention from cover to cover. This book is full of suspense, action and adventure, hot sex and deep, forever kind of love. I have all this series of books in paper back. But it had been a while since I'd read them . I ordered the kindle book.
Well, have I said enough to spark your interest? Hope so.Excellent falls a little short for me when I think about this love story.

I read this book several years ago in paperback and absolutely loved it. I would have given it 5 stars back then because this was the first romantic book I had ever read not named Harlequin. The suspense was off the charts. Fast forward a few years and I couldn't remember the plot well so I decided to buy it now that I have a tablet and read it again. The book held my interest as it did before but only up until the last few chapters when Risa finally remembered who the other person was. The book had been building to this point and when it finally happened along with the consequences, it was somehow anticlimactic. I was expecting something more dramatic with action and it was just....a drab. I don't like when the balloon is getting bigger and bigger and then the climax is just to slowly let the air out. I want the balloon to pop or explode. I was disappointed with the ending.

Some of the other reviews seem like they didn't read the book! Orion never raped anyone, the "soft handed" doctor giving her the injections did. So, I find it odd to hate a book, when they recap it so wrongly. I love the ELITE OPS book series by Lora Leigh!!! She is an awesome writer. I loved Wild Card, Heat Seeker, Renegade, Black Jack, etc. MAVERICK is one of my favorites. Micah has watched Risa from afar for awhile and knows his attraction for her already. He's magnificent in his strength and commitment. This author scorches her pages with the erotic sex scenes. Wow! The stories are well written, have great characters and steamy sex. Micah and Risa, aaahhhhh! He is great FOR her, TO her, and WITH her. I've read this book twice now, and it engages me still. Can't get enough of Lora's stories. I like to meet up with old characters from other books, reunite and see how they are doing. We already know them and are confident they will be helpful to the new people. I also loved that the ending, spoiler, didn't leave things up in the air. Their issues were wrapped up, yeah! Enjoy the book.

Another great, must read over and over again book by Lora Leigh! I love the fact that I get to connect again with my old favorite characters which really makes Leigh's book stand out and above her rival authors. I admired Maverick as he seduced and help rebuild a fragile, damsel in distress' self esteem as a sensual woman. I want a romantic Alpha man, are they still out here?
