I have always loved Johanna Lindsey's books and thought I had read them all but this one had escaped me. It was wonderful! I loved the wonderful twist at the end. I hope that I can find more books I haven't read and that they're just as good as this one.

Pleasantly surprised that I enjoyed the two main protagonists characters, Margaret & Sebastián. Since this was written in 2005, I was afraid that Sebastián would be a truly callous, debauched rake. I cringe at that kind of supposed romance heroes. It turned out, though he had sowed some wild oats as a very young man, he had matured to become an honorable man & was the opposite of a rouge/rake. Though not perfect, with a facade of being unfeeling, he had also learned how to earn a living while...

Though not perfect, with a facade of being unfeeling, he had also learned how to earn a living while helping those in need. I loved that Margaret turned to be brave, feisty, adventurous & determined to save her beloved guardian, Sebastian's father. Though prim & proper, she was not afraid of the scowling Sebastián. What I truly liked, she did not moon over Sebastián, she was a heroine who felt no jealousy nor had a need to with Sebastián. So many romance plots, have the heroine so insecure & jealous, which I heartily dislike and or the hero flirting or pretending with another woman. Sebastián did do something towards the end which made me want to slap him because it deeply hurt Margaret, not that she would give him the satisfaction of showing it. Good for her! No unfaithfulness though.

This was my first Johanna Lindsey book, but will not be my last.

Overall a very good read, but could use an ending clean up.

But...I will buy more of her books.
