Perfect Partners
Midwestern librarian Letitia Thornquist didn't have the right stuff to run Thornquist Gear, Inc. That was the bottom-line opinion of Joel Blackstone, the seasoned CEO who had built the small Seattle sporting goods store into an industry giant. But Letty's rich Uncle Charlie willed her the company, and now she was bubbling with enthusiasm to have Joel, a perfect mentor, show her the ropes.
Teaching her the business was all Joel grudgingly planned to do...until the sensuous curves under Letty's navy suit and the unabashed desire in her wide, innocent eyes left him longing for a personal kind of merger. Soon his sizzling kisses convinced her that she wasn't in Kansas anymore. But no matter how skilled Joel was in the art of love, Letty knew she was at risk in his arms. Behind his tough facade she sensed a world of hurt that cried out for her warmth and understanding. She realized the "L" word might never be spoken if trust didn't make them perfect partners 9 to 5...and in the loving after-hours of midnight to dawn.
In a witty, classical duel of romance and ambition, Jayne Ann Krentz deftly portrays two fiery opposites caught by an irresistible attraction...in a deliciously spicy tale of life at the top and love in the depths of the heart.

No terrorist attacks, no kinky sex, no convoluted and barely comprehensive plot lines ... love it! Krentz has put together a story about relationships, personal and professional. This may be an oldie but it is a really good page turner. Heroine is a librarian who inherits her great uncle's sporting goods company, dumps a jerk fiance and her job to move cross country, take over the inheritance and start a new life. She's also looking to add passion to her life. The hero is peeved because the great uncle's promises to sell the company to the hero are complicated by his death and it is willed to the niece. Joel built the company while great uncle's time was spent fishing. To add to the problem, our hero planned for vengeance against an old enemy when he took over. His plans were upended when she arrived and proved to be smarter and cuter than he expected. Romance ensues of course and problems are attacked by novel methods and by a great cast of memorable characters.

Not at all about dominance in the physical/sexual arena, but, more than thirty years ago when this book was written, the male lead was written to be just the sort of man whom literary augents and publishing houses believed buyers of romance novels wanted and expected. Thus, this book now isn't of the top quality of this author's more recent work. But if you can choose to be amused instead of affronted, it can be a fun read anyway.🤳📖
