Forever...
From "A Knight in Shining Armor" to "The Mulberry Tree, " Jude Deveraux's bestsellers sparkle with stunning originality, heartfelt wit, and adventurous passion. Now, this superb storyteller mixes the flavor of a classic fairy tale with a very modern love story -- set in a town locked in the shadows of an abiding evil -- in this imaginative new novel. "Forever..." Darci Monroe overcame a childhood of neglect with an ebullient spirit, a positive attitude...and extraordinary determination. Now the resourceful young woman, hired as Adam Montgomery's personal assistant, devotes more than just professional attention to this devastatingly handsome millionaire. But one thing bars Adam from accepting Darci's love: he is intent on discovering the secret of his parents' disappearance, for she possesses the otherworldly abilities needed to help him fight a terrifying mistress of the dark arts. This is unlike Jude Deveraux's other books, as it is a combination sci-fi / mystery / part-romance. Even though the main character is a bit perky and scatterbrained (the best word for her is a "sprite") I liked her a lot. The magic in the book made it for me. No sex, which is usually a downfall, but I didn't mind, as the story is very good.
If you read this book, you must read the other 2 books in the trilogy. It is pretty good by itself, but the other two complete the story.

I enjoyed reading this book in the three book series, even though I had read the second book first. I kept comparing Darcy's character in the first book with the one in the second and how her character had grown in the second. She was a much stronger woman in the second book and now having read the first book, I can see how she came to be the experienced woman in the second. I enjoyed reading this book in the three book series, even though I had read the second book first. She was a much stronger woman in the second book and now having read the first book, I can see how she came to be the experienced woman in the second. Also, why or how she was so in love with Adam in the second book even though Adam's character as only mentioned in the second book though his presence was only illuded to. I enjoyed the intimacy without all the details. I did not care for the idea that being the 21st century made it ok for sex without marriage. Sex within the marriage makes for a more wholesome and precious relationship between characters versus the cheapening of sex outside of marriage. The idea that people cannot wait until marriage to consummate the relationship is just worldly and selfish. It is also not safe having sex with multiple partners.
However, I thought Jude Deveraux skillfully built the relationships in a believable and endearing way. I recommend this series to those who enjoy intrigue and a good ending.
